Mayor Ben Walsh Officially Part of CNY History, Historic Congress Beer Coming Back

Mayor Ben Walsh put his mark on history this morning by signing his name in Syracuse’s Mayoral Autograph Book in the Onondaga Historical Association Museum. The signature marks the 52 nd to be added since Syracuse’s first mayor, Harvey Baldwin, added his autograph in 1848. Walsh’s name also sits alongside his grandfather’s, William Walsh, who served as the 48 th mayor of Syracuse from 1962 to 1969. The Onondaga Historical Association has a new exhibit aimed at teaching people about the history of bridges in Onondaga County.  The exhibit shows off various bridges throughout the county, but focuses primarily on the impact these bridges have had on the history of development within the region.

Syracuse Lax Falls in National Championship

Despite a 5-0 lead early on, the 2013 season ended in disappointment for the Syracuse Orange. Duke defeated SU in the National Championship game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia 16-10. It is the 2nd National Championship in program history for the Blue Devils.

The loss was SU's first in a national championship game since 2001, ending a string of four straight national-title game victories for the Orange.

A U-S government program to treat AIDS in foreign countries reached a milestone this past Memorial Day weekend and it has connections to the disease in this country.

Drivers on Salina Street are seeing red today, but it is for a good cause.  Onondaga County and City of Syracuse officials met with AIDS Community Resources Director Michael Crinnin to paint a red stripe down Salina Street in honor of the A-C-R’s Paint the Town Red Campaign for AIDS awareness. 

One veteran this Memorial Day is sharing his experiences trying to help other Vets get stable housing, medical care or other help. 

SU Lacrosse Advances to Title Game

Despite trailing for the seemingly the entire game, the top-seeded Syracuse lacrosse team came back from behind to defeat #4 Denver 9-8 in the Final Four to advance to its 17th National Championship game in school history. The Orange now takes on seventh-seeded Duke on Memorial Day Monday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at 1 PM.

 Derek Maltz scored the game winning goal with 19.2 seconds left to seal it for the 'Cuse. Malt's goal capped a furious rally that saw the Orange tally five of the game's last six goals to overcome a 7-4 deficit entering the fourth quarter.
