OCC Receives Award For Their Two Newest Green Buildings

Onondaga Community College’s newest buildings are receiving high marks for their environmental features. The Academic II building and the SRC Arena and Events Center received the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council Tuesday morning. Being certified by the U.S. Green Building Council means that the building design and construction met specific green building criteria.

Manufacturing Month Works to Generate Student Interest in New STEM Careers

  Manufacturing in the Central New York area has seen its decline, but showing young people about the field could drum up interest in areas that could be more promising.  Today, 300 students and 100 business leaders kicked off manufacturing month at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Books in America have been censored for a variety of reasons: sexual content, violence, offensive content… and even depicting life that doesn’t seem quite “American”. Banned Books week took a look at some of the examples and the issues they raise.

Cornell University Selects First Woman President

Cornell University's 13th president will be a woman, the first ever to lead the institution.  The Cornell University Board of Trustees Tuesday unanimously selected Elizabeth Garrett to take the helm next summer.  In a release from the university, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees and of the Presidential Search Committee Jan Rock Zubrow , says "Our six-month search for Cornell's next president has reached an exciting and historic conclusion.

SUNY Universities to Expand Educational Programs at Syracuse's Inner Harbor

The old boathouse at Syracuse’s Inner Harbor is the place where two local SUNY Universities learned they would be getting $20 million to expand educational programs on Onondaga Lake.  Governor Cuomo made the announcement and explains it will support college programs focused on job training. “Identify the job and the dream for that job. That’s what OCC does which is exactly right. ESF, water research and quality, it’s going to work for the lake, but it also has commercial applications.
