Fairgoers Making Music of Their Own at Empire State Theater and Musical Museum

The State Fair is winding down, and if you’re looking for something different to check out, the Empire State Theatre and Musical Museum in the Art and Home Center might fit the bill.  Sure, you’ll be hoofing it all over the fairgrounds, but spare yourself some energy to perform some 'pedal pumping' on a player piano from the early 1900’s.

Trying to Get 16-and-17-year-olds Out of Adult Courts and Prisons

Raise the Age is trying to change New York law regarding criminal defendants who are 16 or 17 years-old.

A coalition of criminal justice, children’s and civil rights groups is trying to change how teenagers are treated in the New York’s criminal justice system.  They want to keep young people accountable if they’ve committed a crime…but also preserve their future.

Women's Day at New York State Fair Is Back, Applies to Modern Values

Women’s Day at the New York State Fair has changed over the years, but the celebration Wednesday still offered opportunities for personal growth and chances to improve the community. 


Art and Home Center Director Sheryl Lavin remembers the event used to be a great opportunity to get women connected with service groups.


Speakers addressed health issues that apply especially to women (such as heart disease and sleep troubles) and provided advice on avoiding discrimination or scams based upon gender.

$200K Worth of Heroin Found in Local Drug Raids; 14 Defendants Arrested

A special drug trafficking unit nabbed heroin in raids in Onondaga County worth around 200-thousand dollars.  Local Sheriff’s deputies worked with federal agents and state police to arrest 14 defendants and seize 20 ounces of the drug.  They say it was packaged in about 18-thousand packets for sale.  They also recovered cash and illegal hand guns.
