live music http://waer.org en Pops in the Park Returns Next Week; Expands to Five Concerts http://waer.org/post/pops-park-returns-next-week-expands-five-concerts <p>A free concert series returns to Onondaga Park in Syracuse starting next Tuesday, and continues every Tuesday night until into early August. &nbsp;THE JULY 1st PERFORMANCE IS BEING RE-SCHEDULED DUE TO THE WEATHER. &nbsp;See schedule below.</p><p></p><p>The City of Syracuse Department of Parks and Recreation Pops in the Park &nbsp;series now includes five concerts on July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29, and August 5. &nbsp;The shows are free and open to the public.&nbsp; Here's the rundown from a city press release: Tue, 01 Jul 2014 17:51:07 +0000 Scott Willis 20429 at http://waer.org Pops in the Park Returns Next Week; Expands to Five Concerts A Weekend of Jazz, Wine, and Arts Comes to Clinton Square in Late July http://waer.org/post/weekend-jazz-wine-and-arts-comes-clinton-square-late-july <p>If you’ve been thinking about some Jazz Music with a sip of wine from the vine… chances are that you live in the right city.&nbsp; The <a href="http://cnyjazz.org/nejwf">Northeast Jazz and Wine Fest</a>&nbsp;will bring plenty of music to Downtown Syracuse almost a month from now.&nbsp;</p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5;">Organizer Larry </span>Luttinger<span style="line-height: 1.5;"> says there are many acclaimed artists in this year’s line-up.</span></p><p><em>"That consists of pianist Michael Wolff who did many years as Arsenio Hall music director, Mike Clark best known for his fantastic work back with the &nbsp;legend Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters back in the eighties and we're bringing in Gil Parris, America's finest guitarist in all possible genres. He's a great blues player, a great smooth jazz player, a great R&amp;B player, a great straight-ahead jazz player. He'll be joining that trio for an hour of fun. "</em></p><p>Some other main stage performers include Sherma&nbsp;Andrews, Michael and Angela Lynn and Marcus Johnson. Luttinger says Johnson will also serve a role as mentor to scholastic musicians.&nbsp;</p><p><em>"Student groups play, Marcus Johnson listens to them and then he plays with them as a soloist in their final tune. Then he stays on stage, takes the microphone and gives them support of commentary and tips and pedagogical&nbsp;advice in front of an audience of parents and the general public.
