New Jazz Coming to WAER

WAER has new Jazz coming to our evening lineup starting March 6th. Each weeknight from 8-9pm you’ll enjoy a different show before we jump into our familiar Jazz programming.

Monday Night you’ll hear Jazz Happening Now from Public Radio International with your host Jeff Hanley. Every week, Jeff connects listeners to today's vibrant jazz scene — from emerging artists to the living legends still playing and recording. Innovation, invention, musicality, and heritage are all celebrated in this music-filled show.

On Tuesday’s tune in for Jazz in the New Millennium, a one-hour jazz program hosted by veteran journalist, radio host, and educator Rick Mitchell. Jazz in the New Millennium is a mainstream jazz show that isn't afraid to explore jazz artists' forays into other musical genres, as a part of their career journey.

From 8-9pm on Wednesday it’s the return of Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz. For more than thirty years, legendary pianist Marian McPartland welcomed a stellar line-up of jazz artists for conversation and improvisation. Piano Jazz has been a forum for jazz legends and influential performers as well as up-and-coming talents. We hope you’ll join us for the return of this timeless classic.

And, we close out the work week with The Cool Jazz Countdown. This hour long weekly show highlights the Top 10 Jazz Albums of the week based on jazz charts, listener feedback and local radio airplay. Each week Hosts Marcellus Shepard & Kyle LaRue incorporate music from mainstream, to contemporary to the new collaborations of jazz & soul. Cool Jazz Countdown also includes biographical thumbnails about the featured artists and sidemen on the recordings, as well as occasional clips of artist interviews.
