Next Up for SU LAX, Yale

The top-seeded Orange(14-3) continues its quest for its 12th NCAA championship on Saturday, May 18 when it meets Ivy League champion Yale (12-4) at 3 p.m. at Byrd Stadium in Maryland in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament. 

Based on a childhood fascination with his grandfather’s player piano, 20-time Grammy Award winner Pat Metheny took his musical exploration to a new territory and built The Orchestrion, a mechanically controlled mini-orchestra capable of responding to his touch on the guitar. This innovative project brought about a completely unique approach to solo performance. The collaboration between this master guitarist and his wildest imagination has resulted in a fascinating and absolutely one of a kind musical experience.

SU Lacrosse Advances to the Quarter Finals

SU Lacrosse got past Bryant, 12-7, in the NCAA Opening Round Sunday night inside the Carrier Dome. Dylan Donahue led the Orange with 3 goals, while Kevin Rice added 2 goals to go along with 2 assists. Tewaaraton finalist JoJo Marasco paced the midfield with a pair of goals as well.

Monday starts Salvation Army week nationwide...and here in Syracuse it means recognizing an agency that’s been here for 130 years.  Here's some of the history and the modern makeup of the organization.

Jazz is one of those music genres that divides listeners into 3 basic categories: enthusiasts, acceptors, and avoiders.  Enthusiasts are those that are passionate about the music and it's history.  Acceptors might not necessarily know what they are listening to but often enjoy and accept what they are hearing.  Avoiders...well they need no definition.  The latest incarnation of the Bill Horrace and Dave Solazzo Experience attempts to bridge some gaps between enthusiast and acceptor and perhaps snag an avoider or two.

A Mother’s Day meal at some local restaurants might also serve as a reminder for Moms to take care of their health. 

Many local women and several groups got together Wednesday to bring more attention to a type of cancer that can go undetected.  For two of them Ovarian Cancer Day is very personal.

Syracuse Prepares for Start of NCAA Tournament

The Syracuse men's lacrosse team takes on Northeast Conference champion Bryant in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday in the Carrier Dome. WAER's coverage starts at 7 PM with Countdown to Face-off. The game follows at 7:30. After winning the Big East Tournament Championship last weekend for the second straight season, the Orange was rewarded for with the top seed in this year's 16-team field.

Best Local Newscast, Best Sports Show, Best Human Interest Feature Story were just some of the awards WAER's news and sports staff members were honored with Saturday Night at the Syracuse Press Club's annual awards banquet.  The yearly awards honor the best in broadcast, print and online journalism over a broad area in Central New York.
