The leader of a center for gay youth and those questioning their sexuality is reacting to the Boy Scouts of America vote to include openly gay scouts.   It’s being seen as a positive step – but a
tepid one.

The top-seeded Orange continues its quest for its 12th NCAA championship on Saturday, May 25 when it meets No. 4 seed Denver at Lincoln Financial Field in the national semifinals. The game marks the first NCAA postseason meeting between the two schools.

Syracuse advanced to the semifinal round for the 27th time in school history with a 7-6 come-from-behind victory versus Yale in the quarterfinals. Denver marched on with a 12-11 triumph over No. 5 seed North Carolina. The other national semifinal features Duke versus Cornell at 2:30 p.m.

A Rescue Mission Thrifty Shopper store opened its doors today in the Westvale Plaza to try to raise money and support for the local needy.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand wants to see more oversight of probation offices and how they monitor ankle bracelets given to suspects on home-detention.  She cites the David Renz case here in Syracuse in a letter to US administrative Judge Thomas Hogan.

SU Lacrosse to the Final Four

Top-seeded Syracuse Lacrosse beat Yale 7-6 in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals to advance to the Final Four in Philadelphia. The Orange plays 4-seed Denver Saturday at 5 PM for the right to play in the Championship game on Memorial Day. The Orange jumped out to a 4-goal lead in the 1st quarter with help by junior attack Derek Maltz, who had 2 goals. But then the 'Cuse was held scoreless for a stretch of over 43 minutes and allowed Yale to take a 6-4 lead in the 4th quarter. Syracuse was resilient, however, and chopped away at the lead.

Central New Yorkers will get another opportunity to add their opinions to the debate over the future of Interstate 81 Tuesday.
