Best Local Newscast, Best Sports Show, Best Human Interest Feature Story were just some of the awards WAER's news and sports staff members were honored with Saturday Night at the Syracuse Press Club's annual awards banquet. The yearly awards honor the best in broadcast, print and online journalism over a broad area in Central New York.
The awards were for material broadcast in the 2012 calendar year:
When the recorded audio introduction explaining the meaning of Angelic Warrior started, you knew that it was going to be a special performance. Tia Fuller's grand entrance from the back of the house to the stage set the scene for an evening of high energy jazz improvisation that left the audience wanting more. Weaving story-telling, audience engagement and energetic performances, Fuller and her band delivered a polished product worthy of closing out a special month dedicated to the preservation of jazz as an American art form.
In a unique twist, No. 5 Syracuse (11-3) finds itself squaring off against No. 6 Notre Dame (10-3) for the second time in six days when the 2013 BIG EAST Championship commences on Thursday, May 2. The Orange and Irish meet at 4:30 p.m. at Villanova Stadium.
