New Business Headquarter's Rises Out of Contaminated Factory Thanks to Utility Incentives

With the help of National Grid’s Economic Development Program, what used to be the vacant B.G. Sulzle plant in Salina has been transformed into the new headquarters for Empower Federal Credit Union.  The 75,000 square-foot facility received more than $282,000 in incentives.  C.E.O. John Wakefield says the credit union has already realized huge efficiency gains.

Syracuse Football Slips By Wake

Syracuse football (4-4, 2-2) shut out Wake Forest (4-5, 2-4) in the Carrier Dome 13-0. The Orange defense allowed no points just two weekends after it let Georgia Tech put 56 on the board down in Atlanta.  

Both offenses started slow in the first half putting up two zeroes at the intermission. The Orange and Demon Deacons combined for 14 punts and zero 3rd down conversions in the first half.

The Syracuse men's basketball team opened its 2013-14 exhibition slate in the Carrier Dome with a 79-41 victory against Division II Holy Family on Friday, Nov. 1. "Overall, I think it was a good night," said head coach Jim Boeheim. "We learned some things and hopefully we can work on it for a couple days and come back Tuesday and see what we can do."

North Country Public Radio/Champlain Valley reporter for the Innovation Trail

Sarah Harris covers the Champlain Valley for Innovation Trail. She was an assistant teacher for the first class of the Transom Story Workshop in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.  Sarah's work has aired on NPR's All Things Considered, Morning Edition and Weekend Edition. Sarah is a 2010 recipient of the Middlebury Fellowship in Environmental Journalism, has lived abroad in the Maldives and Nepal, and is a graduate of Middlebury College.

Lynn Hatter is a  Florida A&M University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism . Lynn serves as reporter/producer for WFSU since 2007 with education and health care issues as her key coverage areas.  She is a member of the Capital Press Corps and has participated in the NPR Kaiser Health News Reporting Partnership and NPR Education Initiative.  When she’s not working, Lynn spends her time watching sci-fi and action movies, writing her own books, going on long walks through the woods, traveling and exploring antique stores. As a closing point to Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence has sponsored a series of PSA videos.  Singer and songwriter Natalie Merchant appears in the videos as a spokesperson for encouraging people to step up and say something when they suspect abuse.

SU Football Hosts Wake Forest

Syracuse football (3-4, 1-2) hosts Wake Forest (4-4, 2-3) this Saturday. The last time the Orange was in action SU “got (its) rumps kicked” in the words of head Coach Scott Shafer following the beat down in Atlanta.

The Orange looks to rebound from that horrible 56-0 loss against Georgia Tech with a win against Wake Forest at home. SU gave up nearly 400 yards on the ground alone against the Yellow Jackets, but the run defense is not the only worry against the Demon Deacons.
