Hospitality Fair Underway at Destiny U.S.A.

Christian Bersani-WAER News

Students, Graduates, and job seekers were all given the chance to network with dozens of employers at Destiny U-S-A today as part of Bryant and Stratton’s Hospitality Fair.

The event was held as a result of the recent boom the hospitality industry has had in Central New York and provides help for job seekers from all over the state.  Don Bregande is the Director of Human Resources at the Syracuse University Hotel.  He says the hospitality industry can be one of the most rewarding career paths for qualified employees who wish to climb past entry level jobs. Bregande often gets qualified applicants who are unemployed.

“They are willing to take anything. They have enough confidence in themselves that if they get hired at any job, it doesn’t matter what it is, they can show folks in a reasonable amount of time that they are ready to take on something more. It’s great to find people like that.”

Bregande believes career fairs are beneficial to both employers and potential job candidates since they’re only a step away from meeting competing businesses on the other side of the room.  Bryant and Stratton student Emily Sudol is just one of the many career-minded browsers happy to get her name out to both hotels and travel agencies.

“I think it’s exciting to be able to meet people and network with them and introduce myself to get to know what their hotel or company is about and find out if that’s the place I want to work at.”

Sudol is preparing for interviews with several local businesses and eager to pursue the hospitality field.  More about Bryant and Stratton and the career fairs they host is at bryantstratton.edu.
