Music for the Mission Releases New Single with Local Musicians to Feed 100,000 Families

Music for the Mission

A new song dropped today featuring more than 40 local musicians lending their voice to raise funds by the sale of each download with a goal to feed 100,000 families.  Their efforts came from an idea from a Co-Founder and singer Angela Moonan who wanted to open up the conversation about those less fortunate in communities across Upstate New York.

“It’s a human issue that goes across many scopes of neighborhoods.  Even some of the wealthiest neighborhoods have people who go hungry.  And so, we thought we’re going to use our love, our passion for music and give lots of people a chance to give back.”

Moonan pitched the idea to acclaimed songwriter Bob Halligan Junior, whose songs have sold more than 30 million copies..

“I’ve had songs recorded by Kiss, Cher and Michael Bolton, Judas Priest, Blue Oyster Cult, Joan Jett, (and) Night Ranger. When we started (with the ‘We Are One’ recording session) I was pretty scared because there were some really legendary people in the room. It was weighing me down and as we went along, everybody started pitching-in, instead of criticizing.”

Moonan calls it a lifelong dream to have legendary singers together to record a new song to raise money to feed the homeless and less fortunate.

“Our goal is to 30,000 downloads across all these markets which some of these food pantries have such buying power for food, you’d be amazed.  You can actually provide 3 meals for a dollar.  So, every time a song is downloaded that means a full days, 3 square meals for someone.”

Awareness about the song is being publicized through media partners in Syracuse, Rochester, the Southern Tier and Northern New York where Moonan grew up.

“They deliver over 2,000 meals a week to families, single Mom’s with kids who don’t know how they’re going to put dinner on the table tonight.  So, it’s not an urban problem, solely.”

99 cent downloads of “We Are One” by Music for the Mission can be found on iTunes, Amazon and C.D. Baby and will be divided accordingly across the noted regions.  Click here to go to their website.
