New Luxury Outlets at Destiny USA Could Bring More Job Opportunities

John Smith/WAER News

Destiny USA continues to add to its plethora of available stores and this new wave is bringing in some high end brands. Companies such as Giorgio Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo and Johnson & Murphy now have outlet locations in Destiny’s newest wing.

These additions are expected to increase the number of jobs available at Destiny. General Manager of Destiny, Rob Schoeneck says Destiny has always been a Syracuse powerhouse when it comes to providing jobs,

For years Carousel Center employed probably from thirty-five to over four thousand people over the holiday season. I think with these new tenants opening up and with Cheesecake coming on line we’re getting close to if not passing six thousand people working here at Destiny USA. You know we’re really down to twenty or twenty-five store fronts still to fill so that’s probably easily another five, six, seven hundred jobs going into 2014.”

Syracuse University Whitman School Retail Professor Amanda Nicholson wonders how well these luxury stores will fare once the "wow factor" is gone,

"I think they have great wow factor, I am certainly going to go and see them. I think it will be really cool to have these kinds of stores right here in Central New York. From a business perspective however it will be interesting to see how they fare in the middle of Central New York, if they can do well here."

Assistant General Manager at Salvatore Ferragamo, Janna Pemberton is herself an example of how the new stores at Destiny USA are already providing new job opportunities.

Ferragamo Manager promises top quality at new Destiny outlet store

She said she previously worked in retail in Rochester, NY and she took the opportunity that Destiny represented. She believes the new stores will fulfill a niche previously left vacant,

“I think [in] Syracuse there’s been a gap in the luxury market here I think it’s something that’s been missing and people are very excited to have a luxury brand like Salvatore Ferragamo here”

She says even though the stores are technically outlets they still provide the same quality product…just a season behind. Among the new stores coming to Destiny, two will open this weekend including Lucky Brand Jeans and Todd Shoes.
