One Streak Ends While Another Continues For SU Men's Lacrosse Against Hobart

Cuse.com

Syracuse (8-1, 3-0) snapped its one-goal game streak, but extended its win streak to six straight with its 17-11 win over in-state rival Hobart (4-6, 1-1). Senior Nick Mariano and sophomore Nate Solomon led the way for the Orange, each with four goals. Mariano tacked on a few more points to his stat line, adding three assists as well. Evan Malloy had a 17-save night against the team he made his first career start against 364 days ago.

The scoring started early and often for both teams. Syracuse jumped out to a 2-0 start just three minutes into the contest, eventually stretching the score to 4-1. Despite large early leads from the Orange, the Statesman kept sticking around.

Hobart cut into the ‘Cuse lead to make it 4-3, but after three straight goals from the Orange, the Statesman would never be that close again.

Syracuse led 7-5 in the middle of the second quarter, when back to back goals by Nate Solomon and Brad Voigt extended the Orange lead to four heading into the locker room at 9-5.

The second half started off a little shaky, with Hobart scoring two goals right out of the gate. But the Orange faithful were put at ease with one of Solomon’s four goals on the day followed by a Brendan Bomberry snipe put Syracuse up 11-7.

After back and forth play by both Hobart and Syracuse, the Statesmen were showing signs of life. Whatever was to be resuscitated flat-lined for good after a three-goal run by the Orange, leaving the final score 17-11.

Malloy led the defensive efforts with a career-high 17 saves in 58 minutes, while the Orange were being out-shot 55-31. Sergio Salcido did not score, but added three assists in Syracuse’s victorious campaign to keep the Kraus-Simmons Trophy in Syracuse.

Syracuse returns to the Carrier Dome when it takes on Cornell next Tuesday at 7pm.
