Riffin' The Guitar and Rockin' the RedHouse: Local Bands Compete for Benefit

theredhouse.org

A rock concert headed to the stage of the Landmark Theater next week joins some corporate pride with the cause of supporting the arts in the community  The benefit concertis designed as a battle of the bands.

The groups participating have some fun with their names – owing to the companies they represent like the Chillerz from Carrier, Petty Ca$h from Bank of New York Mellon, Defense Mechanism from Lockheed Martin, Six Pack form Anheuser Busch, Actuators from Young & Franklin, Old School from Manlius Pebble Hill and the Verdict from Bousquet Holstein law office.

Mike Featherstone plays for the CX Dinosaurs representing CXtec.

"  2003, the  president of our company asked me to start a band to help support our community. The first year we played for the United Way Benefit. We have played pretty regularly for Breast Cancer and Leukemia Benefits. That is why we started doing it and that is why we continue to do it. Most of the other companies they are all musicians, they all do gigs with somebody but not necessarily with their own bands. They put this band together to do this particular show."

Featherstone says the bands raz each other and have fun with it, but also want to win given the effort they put in and that, and that he says results in a great concert.   Red House Managing Director Samara Hannah wants people to enjoy while supporting a primary mission of access to the arts.

"We make sure that everyone has a chance to participate in Redhouse programing. We not only scholarship summer camp slots or classes, we also scholarship tickets to families who otherwise wouldn't be able to come to enjoy something we do at Redhouse, see their family members or someone else who is participating at our shows."

Proceeds will also assist in the Redhouse @ City Center move into the former Sibley’s building, for which construction is set to start within weeks. Hannah calls “Rockin' the Redhouse” one of  their leading fundraisers

The ‘Rockin' the Redhouse’ fundraiser takes place Friday March 11th starting at 7:00. Event tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door and there will be a raffle for a Breedlove Electric Acoustic Guitar. For More information on the event, go to Theredhouse.org
