Starwood-brand Hotel Coming to Syracuse's Inner Harbor

Syracuse’s Inner Harbor will soon be home to a 130-room Starwood-brand hotel as the first part of the larger, 350-million dollar mixed-use waterfront development project.  Governor Cuomo stopped by Thursday to make the announcement.  In his remarks, he acknowledged the decades-long struggle for any significant progress on the 28 acre parcel.

Model of what the Syracuse Inner Harbor could soon look like.

The 18-million dollar hotel will carry Starwood’s "Aloft" name, and would be located on the southern side of the harbor off Kirkpatrick Street.  COR Development of Fayetteville is overseeing the entire harbor project, and was awarded 4.5 million dollars for site remediation and infrastructure development under the state’s regional economic development council initiative.  Starwood company officials say the hotel won’t be asking for or receiving any tax breaks.  Construction is set to begin next spring and the hotel could be open by April 2015.
