When Terrel Hunt steps onto the field on Saturday, he’ll have one of his top targets back in action.
Sophomore tight end Josh Parris will make his season debut against Maryland, SU head coach Scott Shafer said on Thursday. Parris came into the year as Syracuse’s starting tight end, but had surgery on Aug. 20 to clean out cartilage in his knee.
"Parris has had a good week of practice so we’re looking forward to getting him back on the field," Shafer said.
Parris took over as the starting tight end late last season. In 2013, Parris had 90 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning score against Boston College. Without Parris, the Orange started Kendall Moore and converted Jamal Custis from wide receiver to tight end. But the duo only combined for five catches for 28 yards during the first two games of the season.
On Tuesday, SU tight end coach Bobby Acosta said that Parris still had some tightness, but responded well to a series of tests in practice.
“I’m impressed with his rehab and his comeback so far,” Acosta said. “I think just his leadership and his experience being on the field adds to our group and adds to our offense."
