Syracuse Downs ACC Rival Notre Dame

Cuse.com

Syracuse (5-3, 3-0) defeated Notre Dame (5-3, 1-1) 10-6 in the Carrier Dome on Saturday in a matchup of lacrosse powerhouses. The win puts the Orange atop the ACC standings, and is also the program’s 900th overall win, second only to Johns Hopkins.

Both teams came into the game off impressive one goal victories, with the Orange defeating Duke 15-14 on March 24, and the Irish knocking off a formidable Ohio State team on the 25th.

This was the 14th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Syracuse extending their lead in the series to 10-4. A one goal difference had decided four of the last five matchups.

Syracuse got off to a fast start after jumping out to an early 3-0 lead. Notre Dame made a push of their own late in the first half, however, eventually tying the game at 3, as the Orange were able to secure a slight 5-4 lead going into half.

The Orange defense was the difference down the stretch, limiting Notre Dame to only one second-half goal. Syracuse did especially well against the Irish’s man-up attacks, negating all eight of their chances with the man advantage.

Nate Solomon, Jamie Trimboli and Brendan Bomberry each had two goals apiece, but one of the more impressive offensive displays was Tucker Dordevic’s goal in the four quarter to give the Orange an 8-5 lead when he scored on an underhand, one-armed shot.

Syracuse faces local rival Hobart on Tuesday.
