Syracuse, It's Winterfest Time in the City !

Syracuse Winterfest 2014

The Snowstorm couldn’t have come at a more convenient time for Syracuse… it’s the kick-off of the first full weekend of Winterfest.  Thousands of people are expected Downtown over the next week. While people often participate at inside events; getting them to stay outside for events can be a challenge.

Right now, event President Bill Cooper says the Human Sled Dog Race for tomorrow needs more teams to ride n’ slide.

“That usually involves four people or pushing and pulling and one person riding.  And you race down West Water Street and you usually have double eliminations (for) that.”

Syracuse Winterfest Bears will be making their rounds !

There’s all kinds of musical entertainment lined up and old favorites such as the “Wing Walk,” a sampling of chicken wings to vote for the best at various restaurants and bars.  There’s plenty of other things to keep your wings flappin’.

"The Team Trivia is doing really well. A new one this year is the Corn Hole Competition.  It's where you have two boards on an angle with a hole in the center and they're 27 feet apart and you have to throw bean bags at it... and it works very much like horse shoes.  We're doing model trains.  The theme is Winterfest Express. So we're featuring the train history of the city.  The kids will see the model trains at the City Hall Commons along with some kids game activities.”

Blocks of ice were delivered to Clinton Square today for the ice sculpture which will have a locomotive theme.  To get around… Centro is offering free shuttles to the surrounding events.  Winterfest runs through next  weekend.  For a complete list of Winterfest events, you can visit Syracuse Winterfest dot com
