A long break can leave a team rusty or rested. Following a week off of in-game action, the Syracuse Orange (14-6, 3-4) showed little rust in an 81-63 win over the Boston College Eagles (13-8,3-5).
Tyus Battle led all scorers with 24 points on a night where the Orange offense flourished after an early defensive lapse.
Boston College drained four three pointers in four minutes to open up a 14-7 lead early.
Oshae Brissett used his jump shot to capture the lead for the Orange in a stretch where he scored ten straight points for the team. The freshman finished the game with thirteen points.
‘Cuse used a balanced scoring attack to hold the lead for the rest of the night. The team tied their season high for points in a game without overtime with 81.
Five Orange players finished in double figures in scoring. All five of those players also had to play 35 or more minutes to get there.
Starting forward Matthew Moyer left the game just five minutes into the first half with an ankle sprain. Losing the redshirt freshman would leave the Orange, a team which regularly plays some starters for all forty minutes, limited in frontcourt depth.
Moyer’s injury forced freshman Marek Dolezaj to tie a career high 35 minutes. It also provided him with time to score a career high twelve points.
Syracuse looks for their third straight conference win against Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Orange defeated the Panthers 59-45 just eight days ago.
