Three from New York Latest Victims of War in Afghanistan
Three people from New York will be honored this week after losing their lives in the war in Afghanistan.
40-year-old Lt. Todd Clark of Evans Mills and 39-year-old Major Jamie Leonard of Warrick were killed along with civilian contractor Joseph Mirabito from Hunter, NY. The Watertown Daily Times reports a man dressed in an Afghan Army Uniform opened fire on them. Lt. Clark and Maj. Leonard were members of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, while Mirabito was a law enforcement trainer. Governor Cuomo said in a release,
"I join with all New Yorkers in mourning the deaths of these three who gave their lives for out country. We extend our condolences to their friends, families and fellow solders. We will remember them and honor their service."
Cuomo ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all official buildings Friday to honor the three casualties.
