Upstate New Yorkers seem ready to have renewable energy replace any power and economic boost that might have been gained by Hydro-fracking. The Cuomo administration banned expanded gas drilling. Now a poll by the group A Renewable America finds almost five-out-of-six people believe renewable energy is a key strategy for energy independence and reduced costs. Matt McArdle chairs the New York Biomass Energy Alliance…and is seeing government programs expand employment.
“Governor Cuomo’s ‘Renewable Heat, New York’ and ‘New York Sun Initiative’ are great examples of how to stimulate the development and growth of renewable energy in New York and that’s expanded both the manufacturing, and the installation and support of these systems in the state.”
SURVEY FINDINGS (by The Winston Group)
- 80% of residents believe government incentives to adopt more renewable energy will create jobs in NY.
- 79% have a favorable view of renewable energy.
- 84% believe renewables are a key part of a total energy strategy for the state.
McArdle says as they grow, renewable technologies will become cheaper, allowing more people to adopt them…and eventually reduce their energy costs.
