Advocates for older New Yorkers will be pushing Albany this year on new laws that might help with retirement, monthly utility bills and caring for relatives.

AARP is lobbying for support for New Yorkers who spend a lot of time caring for the elderly in their homes, following a 2013 report on New York state elderly care.  The report finds that four million unpaid family caregivers are struggling to balance their jobs with helping elderly family members.

  More than half the people over 50 in Onondaga County might soon be spending as much as a full-time job caring for sick or invalid relatives.  Elderly advocate groups released a study Tuesday that shows caregivers are in crisis.
