Magnarelli Center and nearby Field to Receive $350K in Upgrades

The Magnarelli Community Center at McChesney Park is one of the busier recreation facilities in Syracuse that’s utilized by Youth and Seniors on the North Side.  Between the gym and an undeveloped green field next to Grant Middle School, residents will have an opportunity to play more basketball games during the cold weather and a soccer field down the road through a $350,000 grant.  Assemblymember Bill Magnarelli secured the funding and says his office received numerous calls for a soccer field.

Donations to Make Webster Pond More Accessible

A popular park in Syracuse’s Valley neighborhood is about to become more accessible to those with disabilities.  Covanta Onondaga, which operates the waste-to-energy plant, has pledged $2,300 to the Anglers Association of Onondaga to construct new bridges and make other improvements to trails at Webster Pond.    Anglers vice president Chad Norton has been a member since 1996, and uses a motorized wheelchair.  He says being able to go all the around the pond will feel like a new door has opened.

Pops in the Park Returns Next Week; Expands to Five Concerts

A free concert series returns to Onondaga Park in Syracuse starting next Tuesday, and continues every Tuesday night until into early August.  THE JULY 1st PERFORMANCE IS BEING RE-SCHEDULED DUE TO THE WEATHER.  See schedule below.

The City of Syracuse Department of Parks and Recreation Pops in the Park  series now includes five concerts on July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29, and August 5.  The shows are free and open to the public.  Here's the rundown from a city press release:

ESF College Foundation Donates Land to Expand Heath Park

It’s been a long time coming, but Heath Park in Syracuse now has another entrance.  SUNY Environmental College of Science and Forestry has officially given two acres of land that borders a residential neighborhood to the city parks department.
