  New York Residents and businesses could see reductions and rebates on taxes when Governor Andrew Cuomo forms his new budget proposal.  Monday he released details of a rumored $2 billion rebate for property taxpayers...though government leaders at the town, city and county level will have to play ball with Albany to get it for their residents.

  An insurance company got the go-ahead from New York State to use some new technology to cut down on dangerous texting-while-driving.

Schools hoping for more state aid could see a boost in funding from New York State compared to recent years.  Governor Cuomo told The Capitol Pressroom’s Susan Arbetter that education aid in the 2014 budget could increase four percent.  He adds that working out what’s fair for each city and school system is the job of the state legislature:

Governor Cuomo says it’s now up to the voters to decide whether they want to expand gambling in New York State. He’s signed into law a plan build casinos upstate, but the public must approve a change in the state’s constitution in order for it to move forward.
