LeMoyne College in Syracuse made history Thursday with the selection of its 14th President. Current Provost, Doctor Linda LeMura will become the first ever lay woman President at a Jesuit College on July 1, 2014. LeMura expressed her gratitude Friday, and became emotional sharing her family’s search for the American Dream which she says inspired her.
Representative Dan Maffei has joined the discussion on education reform by releasing his new plan for strengthening education in Central New York. Also in attendance were local education leaders including the Syracuse Teachers Association President, a transfer counselor from Cayuga Community College and the Vice President of the Syracuse University Student Association.
President Barack Obama riled up a cheering, mostly supportive crowd with a message that he's ready to make it easier to go to college, in his first visit to Syracuse. Obama repeatedly made the case foe the importance of a college education.
"There aren't a lot of thing more important than making sure people get a good education. That is key to upward mobility; that is key to a growing economy; that is key to a strong middle class."
Bryant and Stratton’s “Employability Week” is giving Central New York students a look into the minds of employers and how they can improve their chances of being career-ready upon graduation. The college’s Kristen Aust says many students are interested in…and are preparing to enter the field of medicine and allied health.
She says Syracuse has become a mainstay for several medical and health insurance companies.
New Onondaga Community College President Casey Crabill went undercover to explore how students felt about the institution. She scoped out the school as a prospective student to see what she would be getting into.
