National Adoption Day

A large U.S. flag served as the backdrop behind Family Court Judges from Central New York at the OnCenter this morning who were about to officially finalize the adoption process for families.  A local politician candidly shared his emotional account about the day he and his wife decided to adopt two children to expand their family…  Congressman John Katko.

A Central New York family can change a person’s life, especially teenagers in the adoption system.  National Adoption Month is focusing on youth between age 15 and 18 this year.

Families that adopt children from foster care can sometimes need help adjusting to the new situation at home.  The New York State Office of Children and Family Services is committing 1.5 million dollars for post adoption services. The Salvation Army in Onondaga County will get a grant of 195-thousand dollars. Executive Director Linda Wright says these programs are essential to help create a lasting family unit.
