Green Lakes State Park here in Central New York is one of the main focuses of an improvement plan that will eventually dump almost $1 billion into the parks system.  Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey stood on the tee of the Green Lakes golf course Thursday to announce a series of improvements.  The clubhouse patio was being repaired right in front of her, with the interior slated for remodeling next year.

On the first really nice Sunday of the spring season, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo drew in 5,000 people. The Friends of the Zoo are looking to build on many successes with new animals and exhibits by drawing in more crowds as part of a 20 year master plan. Today they took a look back on the past year and what’s ahead. President and C.E.O. Janet Agostini says 362,000 visitors came in 2014.


Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney today announced that admission fees would be waived at Onondaga County Parks Beaches Tuesday to help county residents beat the heat. 

Mahoney says in a release, “Today  is going to be one of our warmest days of the year and we encourage everyone  to take the steps necessary to remain cool.”

Temperatures are predicted to reach into the 90's, with heat indices topping 100.
