Spending will decrease, taxes rates will fall, and water and sewer rates will go up if Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney’s budget goes through as is. She delivered her $1.24 billion spending plan Monday to lawmakers. Mahoney says the property tax levy will drop by 1.2 percent, to a historic low.
Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner said Wednesday she does not support any tax breaks for the proposed Destiny USA hotel. Developers sent a letter to the mayor and County Executive Joanie Mahoney last week expressing their intentions to build a $75 million, 252-room hotel on a parking lot across Hiawatha Boulevard. Miner said that, given the history Pyramid Development has in the area, any hotel construction at Destiny USA should be privately financed, without added incentives from Onondaga County:
New York Residents and businesses could see reductions and rebates on taxes when Governor Andrew Cuomo forms his new budget proposal. Monday he released details of a rumored $2 billionrebate for property taxpayers...though government leaders at the town, city and county level will have to play ball with Albany to get it for their residents.
