Syracuse common councilors took time out Monday to recognize 18 accomplished middle and high school students who are heading to a world robotics competition in Kentucky next month.  The Corcoran Cougar robotics team was one of the teams from the Syracuse City School District to advance from the Northern New York State championship at OCC. 

   Junior Kelsey Lent-Moore says it wasn’t a bad showing considering they scrapped their original design after one of the competitions.

  Manufacturing in the Central New York area has seen its decline, but showing young people about the field could drum up interest in areas that could be more promising.  Today, 300 students and 100 business leaders kicked off manufacturing month at Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Middle and high school students in the Syracuse City School District are taking time during their summer break to learn what could be a high-tech job skill. Starting from scratch, students combined metal with gears, motors, chains, batteries and remote control signals to produce mobile contraptions during a two-week robotics camp.
