Syracuse (2-3, 0-1) is still in search of its first ACC win after the orange was blown out by Clemson 49-14 in the Carrier Dome last Saturday. Now SU turns its attention towards an N.C State (3-2, 0-2) team who is also looking for its first conference win after to losing to Wake Forest 28-13.
The Wolfpack will host the orange in Raleigh at 3:30 on Saturday. Coach Shafer knows that it will be a hostile environment. "I coached at NC State in the late 90s, and it gets loud there. They have a great fan base,” said Shafer.
Clemson made sure Syracuse never had control of the game. After three plays and just 38 seconds, the #3-ranked Tigers led Syracuse 7-0 and Heisman candidate Tajh Boyd was 3-3 with 82 yards and a touchdown.
“When they scored fast, we were like ‘Whoa.’,” said Syracuse cornerback Julian Whigham. “They’re as good as we thought they were.”
Clemson (5-0, 3-0 ACC) continued to dominate Syracuse (2-3, 0-1 ACC) and won 49-14. Boyd threw touchdown passes of 60, 42, and 91 yards to pace the Tigers past the Orange.
This weekend marks the first ACC game for SU football as the Orange welcomes #3 Clemson to the Carrier Dome this Saturday. Syracuse comes into the game carrying a two game win streak and coming off its bye week. Meanwhile, the Tigers come into the game undefeated and most recently torching Wake Forest 56-7.
But even though Head Coach Scott Shafer knows Clemson has the higher rated team, he believes Syracuse has what it takes to pull the upset if the fan base rallies behind the team,.
Syracuse (2-2) rolled Tulane 52-17 Saturday in SU's second home game of the year. A week after coach Scott Shafer won his first game, Terrel Hunt followed suit capturing his first victory as the Orange's starting quarterback. The redshirt sophomore picked up where he left off, leading the Cuse to eleven straight scoring drives at one point dating back to the game versus Northwestern.
All eyes will be on the renewed quarterback battle as Syracuse (1-2) takes on Tulane (2-1) on Saturday. Head Coach Scott Shafer told Orange All Access on Monday that Terrel Hunt will make his first career start against the Green Wave.
