The man who fatally shot Syracuse Police Officer Wallie Howard, Junior in 1990 will be eligible for parole in six years after a ruling today by a Federal Judge in Utica to shorten his sentence to 31 years.  Robert Lawrence faced life in prison but, became eligible for re-sentencing in 2012 following a U-S Supreme Court ruling.

Nine people associated with seven corner stores in Syracuse are now in trouble after Syracuse Police uncovered they’re willing to buy purported stolen goods.  The sting operation involved a six month investigation as informants were sent into stores with products such as baby formula, razor blades, energy drinks and electronics.  Store clerks would buy the items, even though they were told the items were stolen.  A raid was carried out Thursday.  Police Chief Frank Fowler refers here to ”undercover informants” that helped to build a case against the stores.

Members of law enforcement in Central New York are supporting a Federally-funded early childhood education proposal they say would reduce the number of low-income youngsters who end up in jail.

Four teenagers were arrested this week in connection with the murder of Marvin Bryant. Bryant was robbed on Monday night on South Salina street and stabbed twice in the back. He was rushed to Upstate University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Syracuse Police Department Chief Frank Fowler says that evidence gathered from the scene suggests that Bryant was forcefully robbed of his wallet by Tony Comer 10 to 15 minutes prior to the stabbing.

The 70-year-old victim of what's been called an unprovoked attack on Valley Drive in Syracuse has died of injuries sustained in the beating.  Suspect 18-year-old Romeo Williams is in custody for the assault and Syracuse Police say they'll consult with Onondaga County District Attorneys to consider further charges. 

Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler announced during a press conference earlier today that 18 year old Romeo Williams is now in custody in connection with the attack that took place over the weekend in a 7-11 parking lot on Valley Drive. He said James Gifford, 70, was attacked from the front without evident provocation,

“Williams lunged at him, striking him in the face so violently that it knocked him to the ground rendering him unconscious.”
