With dwindling hopes of making it back to the NCAA tournament, Syracuse (19-12, 8-10) heads to Brooklyn for a first round ACC tournament match up with Wake Forest (11-19, 4-14) at the Barclays Center.

Syracuse joined the ACC back in 2013 when the Big East folded. Fast forward to 2018 and the Orange is set to play in its fourth ACC tournament (it sat out in 2015 because of a self-imposed ban). 'Cuse is still searching for its first ever win in the conference tournament.

This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast we'll reunite with a familiar name around Syracuse University. In the 90s, many teams led by Jim Boeheim were centered around toughness. Ryan Blackwell often times was the one to exhibit that toughness. Today he's leading in another way, as the head coach of the Liverpool Boys High School Basketball team.

Also this week on the podcast WAER's Jonathon Hoppe examines of the rich history of Wake Forest sending successful players to the NBA.

One thing was consistent in what became a tale of two halves for the Orange: Tyus Battle.

Syracuse (17-8, 6-6) held on to scrape by Wake Forest (9-16, 2-11) 78-70. Battle put his fingerprints all over the contest, scoring a game-high 34 points. The sophomore's biggest strength on offense was his ability to score from near and far. In addition to his eleven points off free throws, Battle hit three triples.
